Harvard’s Dr. Oreskes is a Science Historian. One of her areas of study is the history of science – specifically – what scientists have been publishing for the last few centuries.
If you don’t have time to read her works, Dr. Oreskes will walk you through one of her most important lectures here. You have to invest about an hour – and if you don’t have the time (spoiler alert) – she shows you that there is not confusion in the scientific community. She also shows you how a small group of people have used the same tactics to postpone regulation on tobacco, acid rain, CFCs (ozone hole), and now climate change. It is a brilliant strategy – and unfortunately very effective. Just convince the general public that “scientists are still arguing about it.” The public will become disinterested and regulation will be postponed.
